Lithium (Li) is the lightest metal on the periodic table. When it is combined with aluminum it is very strong. Lithium is also soft so you can cut it with a knife. When put with carbon and oxygen it can help some diseases like bi-polar disease. Bolivia is the main source of Li. It is sometimes mixed with C, O, and H to make Li grease which is used on cars and trucks. I would really like to try putting Li in water, but I don’t think it is a good idea right now.
When Li is exposed to the Nitrogen (N) in the air, it becomes black, but when you cut it, you can see the shiny inside. When Li turns black it is called Lithium Nitrate (LiNO3).
The next element I will be writing about is Sodium (Na).
Did you know lithium was first detected by a Swedish chemist, Arfvedson, in 1817 – that’s almost 200 years ago!

Grace wants to know why you wouldn’t want to add this to water. Noah Says his favorite element is oxygen because it is sort of essential for living. 😂
